Abstract

Aim of the present study was to develop a rapid detection method to determine of CHIK viral virus in the serum samples collected from in and around Kanchipuram, Tamilnadu, India. A total of 443 patients serum samples were collected from a clinical diagnosis of Chikungunya fever who were admitted in Government Hospitals, Kanchipuram, Tamilnadu, India for evaluation. The samples were collected during the acute phase periods after the onset of symptoms.  In this study we confirmed that the RT-PCR useful to detect the Chikungunya positive results in Kanchipuram, Tamilnadu. This study shown that there was no significant difference that occurred between age group and sex. In conclusion about the persistence of the infection in Kanchipuram is lesser severity; it is emerging as an endemic disease in the state of Tamilnadu, India.
