Abstract

In the present study, three actinomycete samples namely Salinisporaarenicola, Streptomyces sp. and Micromonosporafulviviridis were collected from three different marine sources in Maharashtra, Kerala and Karnataka. They were isolated and further subcultured to obtain pure culture. Primary screening and secondary screening were carried out for the production of antibiotics. The isolated cultures were used for dye decolourisation studies. Two azo dyes namely congored and erichrome black T were used for dye decolourisation studies and the results were obtained on 5th, 10th and 15th day of incubation. Maximum decolourisation was obtained on 15th day. Congo red showed 43% decolourisation and erichrome black T showed 42% decolourisation.  Maximum dye decolourisation was obtained by congo red on the 15th day of treatment.
