Abstract

Panchakarma is the mode of cleansing vitiated Dosha out of body with the help of five modes of purification as Vamana(Emesis), Virechana(Purgation), Basti(Medicine given through rectal route), Nasya(Nasal medicine) and Raktamokshana(Blood-letting). It is said that Vamana, Virechana, ShiroVirechana, Raktamokshana should not be done during pregnancy only Aasthapana or AnuvasanaBasti should be used,use them when required in emergency otherwise not to use them. During eighth month if disease is curable with Vamana then only light Vamana or treatments which give similar relief should be used.Chakrapani elaborated it as if Vamana is required then only Nisthivana (Spitting) and if Virechana is required then Phalvarti (Suppository) should be used.
